Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing
HUD-VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) is a collaborative program between the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Goals
- Provide permanent housing and ongoing case management support to homeless Veterans.

Creation
HUD-VASH was authorized by Section 8(o)(19) of the United States Housing Act of 1937. It was formally launched in 2008 as part of efforts to address Veteran homelessness.
Funding
Funding for HUD-VASH comes from both HUD and VA budgets. For instance, in June 2024, HUD and VA made $78 million available for over 7,000 new HUD-VASH vouchers. Funding is ongoing, subject to annual appropriations and the allocation of housing vouchers by HUD.
